My name is Matt Roberts, I’m the co-founder and CEO of JohnnyVoIP an Ottawa based high tech startup developing a new communication platform for Web Applications. Before that and for most of the last 3 years I worked as an Analyst for Wesley Clover a prominent investor and successful manager of investments in Technology. We’re perhaps best known for being the investment company of successful entrepreneur Terry Matthews.
I’ve been involved in ‘High Tech’ since my first summer job as a teenager, and promptly used that experience to graduate from Carleton University with a History and Economics degree.
In the past I’ve worked for Newbridge Networks (bought out by Alcatel), an investment firm and served as an adviser (& consultant) to several financial groups, including VC’s, PE Funds and Investment Banks. I’ve also volunteered time on the Boards of Not for Profits and Charitable organizations.
I’ve raised money, usually from Angels, but occasionally from investment bankers or VC’s for local Ottawa based start-ups. I have a mixed success record: several have gone public, several are still private and several crashed & burned during the meltdown. C’est la vie.
While at Wesley Clover I was primarily involved in facilitating our technology portfolios as they grow, I still help out on this front, but am almost exclusively focused on my own startup. My interest in technology ranges from video games to Web 2.0 to Telecom.
All posts and the opinions expressed on this site are those of myself and not of my employer, coworkers, friends, family, etc. As a general rule I do not comment on Wesley Clover investments, with the exception of my own company, and I never discuss any of the companies that are publicly listed.
I’m fairly easy to reach though I will make it harder for spammers, feel free to email me at me((-@-))mattroberts .com
